What events are a blast?

Post  Livinzoo on Fri Dec 19, 2008 3:30 am

I have to turn in my vacation requests for next year. So what events should I really try to make?

Hopefully Titan will lose his hesitation and maybe we can get Cerberus into the water.

Also how do you find hotels that are dog friendly. I will have to take all 3.

Destin is one of my favorites. DD has one in Columbus GA in July that is not as fun, but is close by. LaQuinta's and Red Roof inn's are dog friendly. We stay at the Residence Inn in Destin. It is a bit costly but you can get a two bedroom suite and split it which is nice. Bele Chere (UAD) was also a lot of fun! I did not do a ny of the purina ones but heard they were fun also.

I really like UAD events...Milt tries to make sure everybody is having fun- although I think he needs some help judging jump distances...lol. You guys know what I mean!

Destin, Fl Feb 20-22 2009

DD Events are less fun, b/c of Grant. But if you go to an event w/o grant- it's much better. Most of his staff are super nice and fairly helpful. (I wonder why he can't be). Still there tend to be more DD events closer to GA...

Jan 24-Feb1 Louisville, KY "Louisville Boat Show"
Feb 13-15 Charleston, SC
June 19-21 Columbus,GA "AFLAC Outdoor Games"

Purina Incredible Dog Challenge/Carson Events

Purina/Carson events are very accomodating, VERY NICE. They go out of their way to make sure you are happy. With snacks and drinks for competitors. And the towels they gave us @ N. GA State Fair are AWESOME! It's my bragging rights for Jack.heehee. I hope they do the same places they did this year, next year. I'm definitely planning to go to their events! Smile

Splash Dogs and Super Retriever Series (SRS)
I don't know really anything about Splash dogs or SRS- I haven't done any of their events- someone else should chime in about these organizations

I agree w/ Lori, Red Roof Inn or LaQuinta for hotels that are friendly towards dogs. Red Roof is fairly affordable too! Most of the events, kris and I go to, we camp. Overall it's CHEAPER, $10-20 per night vs $70 or more. As long as you have an air mattress- I'm almost just as happy as in a hotel rm.

Camping is great but I don't think my non competing dogs would be safe in a tent while we were gone. Unfortunately I don't have family to leave them with. And wouldn't trust a pet sitter I don't know to have to leash walk them and feed them their raw food. So I would have to pay the hotel price. That is ok because a warm shower is always nice.

Found out Dereks knee Surgery will be Jan 16. So he should be down for 6-8 weeks. So that eliminates some events.

I'll let him know about the others so we can plan our days off.
Thanks

We will probably go to the following events this year:

Destin (2 events) one in the spring and one in the fall.

The Florida crew event. This is SPlash dogs and held in Fort Myers in October or November

Redfish Cup - Punta Gorda. This was in April last year

Carson Events (2 last year) Nashville and Atlanta.

SRS - Maybe in the spring as they havent's announced it yet.

UAD also had and event in ATL last year and we will go to that if it happens again.

A lot of events are not posted for sure until a month or so ahead of time as the promoters sometimes steal events from each other Rolling Eyes

Molly and Rebel and ready and the girls should be good to jump by the end of the summer.

I heard that the purina event that was in Orlando last year is going to be in Atlanta this year. Of course last year Dexie jumped off the dock onto the ground and than tried to jump into the pool from the ground. Needless to say we did get make the cut Very Happy Hopefully she will be a little more consistent this year.

That would be so awesome, if it came to atlanta! Don't worry lori- Jack probably won't make the cut either- unless I can teach him to JUMP UP! Although he may be the only small dog doing Vertical- may get us somewhere LOL.

Destin will be FUN, as Marty said the Florida crew will be there and alot of us will be( Bill and Nancy too Evil or Very Mad ) Carson events, Splash dogs, and SRS are the tops in my opinion. UAD I had a small run in with in San Destin but that was only a 1 time thing. Since you clarified Fun I really think San Destin will be a blast. Hey we can find out where Bill and Nancy are staying and Cancel their reservations Twisted Evil ( now that would be funny)

Excited too hear incredible dog challenge might be coming to Atlanta, ya'll dont forget to send those letters to get paid to jump.

Lets all go to Destin!!!

I'm trying to convince Derek that we should go to Destin. But he is having Knee surgery on Jan 16 so I don't know how he will feel.
